ROURKELA: Air connectivity to the booming Rourkela City may soon be a reality. If things fall in place, the Deccan Charters may end the two decades of drought and launch a commercial flight from March.
Amid mounting demands from several quarters for setting up an air link, a meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Rourkela ADM Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav to pave way for necessary ground clearances. The meeting, among other things, discussed measures to obtain mandatory flight and air terminal clearances from the Director-General of Civil Aviation and security go ahead.
Issue of refuelling was also discussed and it was decided that the available airstrip of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) would be equipped to handle small size commercial aircraft.
To start with, the Deccan Charters have agreed to press into service its 18- seater Beech 900D aircraft.
Today’s meeting is a sequel to the one convened by the State Government on November 22.
Among others, Rourkela Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Subrat Patnaik, Deccan Charters vice-president Sanjay Sehgal, representatives of RSP, National Institute of Technology- Rourkela and local business community attended.
